A full frontal picture of a standing 12 year old girl such as he took is not "art". Some of his work is great but pictures of naked children in sexual positions should be banned. \No great masters did this.

  1. I don't think his images are pornographic but it is interesting that he keeps doing the same sort of stuff year in year out. Obviously it sells, and I wonder if some sort of latent paedophilia in his supporters/buyers underlies why he has become so d**n popular. He is generally considered to be Australia's foremost contemporary artist. While his work is interesting, in my opinion it's not THAT good. Moody dark apocalyptic scenarios are dime a dozen, and trying to affect a "renaissance painting" style has also been done to death.

  2. because cate blanchett is ignorant. When her children grow up to be 12 years old I wonder if she would let this man take naked photos of them.

I used to admire Cate Blanchett now I am disgusted by her.

And by the way Steven R the controversy of these photos are not because they are of naked people, it is because they are of a naked CHILD which is not acceptible in our society for it is classed as child pornography. Every one else who takes naked photos of children are imprisoned because it is illegal, let alone publicly display them. A 12 year old child cannot legally give concent and does not posses the wisdom and foresight to understand the ramifications of such photos.

  3. She's a pretty Smart woman- I'm sure she has Her Reasons... Check them out & then Decide for Yourself...

  4. I would like to explain to you that your incompentence to comprend the issue is unbelievable. Bill henson's new art is ART and should not be considered pornographic as it is intended to be art. Its people like you who jump up and down saying that it is wrong, HELLO no one is being effectef by it if you don't want to see it don't! It is art and you obviously don't have the knowledge and intelligence to understand that.

  5. art = not p**n.

  6. Bill Henson has a good track record within the artistic fraternity and is so admired within it that he is considered infallible.  Any criticism towards him is a seriously career limiting move for those professionals whose livelihoods depend upon that fraternity, hence the support.  Another way of putting this is that a large number of those within that fraternity do not earn sufficient income to support themselves, so if they want a career outside of a coffee shop then it is best to avoid any criticism of their peers (in particular those who are highly admired/infallible).

The reality is that none of us are infallible.  We are all human and are equally capable of producing both brilliance and monotony.

Take the controversial artworks.  Rather than being something new that diverges from the past (as has been suggested within the media) this artwork is in fact built upon a theme of "more of the same", an endless tedium that has continued over a course of many years.

Google "Bill Henson" under images - this new image is not out of the ordinary.  Him being arrested for it is.

  7. You see them in sexual positions because all you have in your head is s*x!

  8. It's art and beautiful pictures. It has nothing to do with sexuality and I can't definitely understand Cate Blanchett defending him especially if he's taken pictures of her. He takes all kinds of photographs. There's nothing wrong with nudity in pictures. Do you mean all art should be censored where there's no nudity at all?
