Why does cement trucks have much larger tires on the front end than the rear?

  1. Only 2 wheels can be put on the front (steering) axle as opposed to 4 wheels mounted on 2 rear axles...Therefore the two in front have to be big enough to carry their share of the load.


  2. They are required to legally carry the load because of the weight distribution. They have enough axles on the rear to support the amount of weight so they don't need the larger tire.

  3. They help the driver maintain better control over the load that they are caring.

  4. It help them from getting stuck in soft areas on building sites.
