Question:

Why does channel 7 think it is funny to make fun of that Columbian weight lifter?

The Columbian weight lifter obviously felt humiliated but continued to try despite his lack of experience. I felt sickened by how channel 7 put the man up as a laughing stock. By the end of the experience the man was clearly on the point of breaking down. While I feel sorry for that weight lifter, in some ways I feel more sorry for the members of the channel 7 team that felt portraying that event in a comical light would be entertaining as they have obviously lost something of their humanity and sense of compassion.

  1. While I agree that I am sick of Seven feeling the need to humiliate this man further - certain things need clarifying.

Oscar Figueroa is not inexperienced. He is the 2006 Silver medalist from the World Championship and a Twice Gold medalist in the Pan American Championship for 2005 and 2008. He ranked fifth in Athens.

He had suffered a hand injury prior to the games and it has been reported that an injection into the hand has resulted in a loss of feeling.

  2. i'm from USA so have no idea what you are talking about. could you summarize?

  3. i screamed at my tv screen when they did that not only that there was a stupid story on today tonight about the bloopers of the games which is just trying to poke fun at something that is not funny isn't that funnest home videos job?

  4. I think it has something to do with the quality of person that ends up in television these days. Petty, insecure and mostly useless. Making fun of someone who actually made it to the Olympics distracts you from the realisation that the 'presenters' and 'commentators' are pointless nobodies who happened to scam an all expenses junket to the Olympic games.

  5. It is a reflection on the rubbish that 7 serve up. The one and only time they show weight lifting and they try and knock it. I'd rather watch a show reel of Daddo's failing

  6. How anyone could feel anything but compassion for this man is beyond me, channel 7 should be ashamed of their handling of this matter!  I can only imagine what the reaction would be if an Australian Athlete was to be humiliated in the same manner.

  7. This isn't the only thing they've had a laugh at. Earlier today during the Kayak (K1) womens final the commentators found it particularly funny  that one of the favourites to win capsized, meaning the Australian was guaranteed at least a silver. They then showed a replay, laughing even more and commenting on the fact that it's incredibly shallow in places and the life guard people nearly had to jump in. What exactly is funny about this potentially harmful incident? Yes, be happy for australia being guaranteed silver, but there are other ways to show it than laughing at other peoples misfortune.

  8. Obviously it must run in all of the channel 7 staff, Yum Cha are, every day hanging it on someone or some team, and have even lowered themselves to putting S H I T on the venue. They want to take a look at themselves, read what is being said about them in forums and the  lack of coverage for some of our other well know sports. They are a disgrace to all of us Aussie. I hope next games 9,10 or 2 get it. Their the ones who are the laughing stock. I'd wonder how they would feel if they couldn't continue in an event knowing the whole world was watching, then again they wouldn't have the guts. Just leave the sports people alone and pick up your own game.

  9. Its disgusting. They mock a man while hes down and when their own has done something similar they hide it

  10. Not sure what you are talking about................does he play for Port Adelaide or Collingwood?

  11. It is a reflection on the intelligence of their commentators and porgrammers. Take advantage of those who suffer.

  12. I know that was terrible, thats just mean, i would like to see anyone that laughed at him to have a go at that, not easy, he was oblovously upset, channel 7 are cruel people
