  1. does it? only certain types of cheeses have holes in it, they are few and far between. did you know that some cheeses have a bacteria introduced into it, to cause green mould, this gives it distinctive strong flavour, smells a bit like sweaty feet. an acquired taste but really nice once  you acquire the taste for it. i find the type of cheese you are talking about a bit bland, there are hundreds of different cheeses around the world, all with their own taste, region to region.it is not common to find a cheese with holes in it, well not in the uk. maybe in holland or france. and even these countries have many other types of cheese, ranging from very mild to very strong tasting

  3. It produces carbon dioxide gas bubbles during aging, hence the holes. The same bacteria that give such cheeses their holes also contribute to their aromatic and sharp flavors.
