  2. Because China is one of the Big Five Powers of World War Two who defeated the Axis powers of Germany, Italy and Japan. In point of fact, China had been invaded by Japan several years before Germany ever invaded Poland. The membership and seat on the Security Council was first held by the Republic of China under the leadership of Chiang Kai Shek. In 1949 that government was forced into exile on Taiwan, but they maintained their seat on the Council. On October 25, 1991 the Republic of China was expelled from the UN and was replaced by the government of the Peoples Republic of China,  whose capital is Beijing.

  3. Because they have proven their ability to lead, use diplomacy, and not go to war under flimsy excuses.

Plus China has given their people more freedom then anytime in their 5,000 year history and is slowly morphing from a repressive state to a democratic republic state.

China has also proven themselves to be a world leader, both economically and diplomatically.  They are a pragmatic and positive country.  The world could learn a lot from them.

Yes, China makes mistakes, but they also learn from those mistakes and China, it seems, is not likely to repeat them.

  4. Do you mean Red China?

  5. Because Atomic Powers.

  6. Because the "victors" in WW11 (The USA, Britain and the Soviet Union decided that there should be a "security council" where each member could have veto power over anything all the other members might agree on.  It looked pretty bad to have only three countries with such power, so they gave seats to France and China, although those countries had really done very little to contribute to the allied victory.  Originally the Chinese seat belonged to Nationalist China, but in 1971 it was taken away and given to mainland China because of politics.  In 1991 the Soviet Union was dissolved and the seat was given to Russia.   The whole thing is very flawed, because just one country can negate the will of all the other states, which why the UN is powerless in a situation such as is happening in Burma right now, if it tries to do something China will just veto it.

  7. They cheated.
