  1. Because it's a large country so the mathematical probability is higher.

Earthquakes:  Because China is situated near the Pacific Rim on its east coast and because it is located along the Himalayan Tectonic zone with stretches from Southern Europe-Turkey-Iraq-Iran the Himalayans into China.  This is an area of large strike slip faulting and faulting associated with the northern movement of the Indian subcontinent into Asia.

    Flooding:  It is in a temperate zone and can also be affected by tropical cyclones/typhoons (hurricanes here).  Lots of people have changed the landscape so that running water will collect faster and with more volume than before.
