Why does coffee make me tired and crash out? ?

i have a cup and literally i could fall asleep.i just ha done like a minute ago and im srcahing out, i get so drowsy and lethargic from it. i ve never drank a lot maybe just a cup every few days so its not like i have built up a tolerance. why does this happen? i thought caffeine makes you more awake and alert? its the same with red bull, does nothing for me, just makes me tired even if im not in the beginning.

i dont drink it for a pick me up, just cos i like the taste of coffee lol.

  2. do you put lots of sugar in your coffee??? sugar and caffeine mixed make you get really energized then really tired. if you want to stop having that feeling, use an artificial sweetener. hope this helps!!!

When my daughter was little, she was borderline hyperactive.  The doctor didn't want to give her Ritalin, so told me to give her half a cup of coffee in the morning!  It acts the opposite on little kids - calming them down! ...  Maybe your system is still reacting like a little kid's, for some reason:)

  4. for some people caffeine has the opposite effect...

    they feel tired, groggy and lethargic

    it's rare but it does affect a minority of ppl

    I knew a girl who always drank coffee or coke before going to bed because it helped her sleep.. lol


  5. Simple principle: "What goes up must come down."  Drink coffee:  blood sugar goes up; pancreas produces insulin: blood sugar goes down.  

  6. Caffeine is a stimulant but for some people it simply does not work. Others can have just a sip and they are energized for hours.

    Another thing too is that caffeine takes more water to process than coffee or energy drinks provide. So it takes it from our bodies which dehydrates us. When we are dehydrated we become tired and lethargic. Caffeine and alcohol don't count towards water intake because of this. In fact we must drink extra water to offset the dehydrating effects of caffeine and alcohol.

    If you feel tired drink 2 glasses of water. If you feel better after 15 minutes then you were just dehydrated. It is also a natural energizer itself. It increases our energy levels and metabolism by 3%.
