Why does downloaded movie jump on some dvd players?

Question

Iv'e just downloaded a movie and put it onto dvd but my problem is when i play it on my dvd player downstairs in my living room, the video and sound jumps and skips. However, when i play it on my small tv upstairs it works perfectly and the thing i dont get is the tv (with built in dvd player) upstairs cost much cheaper than the dvd downstairs. Why is this, could it be the software i used to burn it (i used xilisoft avi to dvd converter) or is it the dvd player?
