Why does everbody think the world will end in 2012

i think the mayans were on some special herbs when they were making their calendar. and if people are making a big deal about it ending in  December 21, 2012 i'll find the d**n calendar and write about 100 more years on it

Most probably not, but I'm a "better safe than sorry" kind of gal, I'll probably have food and water stored just like I did in 2000 and during the big Missouri massive earthquake scare back in the early '90s. That one really was a joke, we started having earthquake drills at my school and a parent even donated hard-hats to all us teachers. HA

The Aztecs are very skilled in Science and Mathematics.

The Aztec calendar, uses a very complex system of numbers, series of fours and sixes and so on. They are very accurate. So they can say by looking at their calendar, that 500 years ago today was a Tuesday!.

But, in the year 2012, the calendar ends... ( Dont know why ),,, maybe the number system went wrong or there ARENT any more days after that.

So people predicted that the world would end ( after seeing the ending of the Aztec calendar which was very accurate ) in the year 2012.

I know it may sound like another stupid superstition. I would side you on that, but honestly this might be the real deal:

The Mayans were really REALLY smart people. They had an amazing calender that could predict winter eclipses a thousand years ahead of their time... that being said they studied the stars and everything really well. Their calender was just amazing along with their math skills. Their calender ends on DECEMBER 12, 2012. Now, let's just say who cares about the mayans and their little predictions.

Science. Scientists say that the the Milky Way will line up with Earth... this hasn't happened in over 25000 years! The solar activity will be up too. And their could be possibly a polar shift! That goes into another story...

This traces back into history where the Mayan Calendar predicted that the world will end on December 24, 2012 (day before Christmas). I dont really understand why, but the Mayans' predictions have NEVER been wrong in the past. When i found out about this, i was really scared too.

I'm not sure where my sister got her info from ,but she's pretty scared about it ,supposedlyher resources  are very convincing ,i hope its not true and if it is there is nothing i can do about it !!
