Why does everybody ask about 2012 here?

How are we as humans supposed to know about when the world is going to end? Think about this... Asking this question here at yahoo answers, does it really put your mind at ease hearing what everyone else has to say. Their opinion is just as good as yours on this issue. People second guess themselves too much these days. It's sheepish.

Just because the Mayan calendar ends on 2012 does not mean that the end is coming. The calendar had to end some time. What better date to end on than 12/12/2012 12.12.12. I hope what I had to say puts your minds at ease.

Well, you are probably asking what "what the h**l is your question?"

I understand how you feel about this 2012 c**p. It annoys me too. Usually, kids get scared about what they hear from their parents and friends and other sources and they freak out about the world ending. They always make up reasons to get their reason across about this silly stuff about 2012. This is what I always say and it always puts those kids at ease:

a) Planet X won't hit the Earth and it doesn't exist

b) Just because the Mayan Calendar ends as what you said, doesn't mean it's the end of the world. It could be possible the Mayans didn't feel like going any further.

c) No human being (not even the most brilliant scientist) can't predict the end. Why worry about something so stupid?

d) The Earth's magnetic poles won't switch in one day. That process takes thousands of years.

e) Just because alpha Particles from the sun hit the Earth doesn't mean that it is it for the human race.

Also, each time the end the world is predicted. They are always wrong. Here are all the predictions of when the world would end and each time they where wrong. Before 2012 it was 2000. Then 1990. And 1988, 1987, 1986, 1985, 1984, 1982, 1980, 1975, 1974, 1970, 1967, 1960, 1957, 1953, 1948, 1940, 1936, 1919, 1915, 1914, 1891, 1856, 1850, 1844, 1832, 1830, 1794, 1792, 1736, 1689, 1669, 1533, 1524, 1496, 1346, 1284, 1205, 1033, 1005, 1000, 992, 968, 500, 375, 365, 200, 90, 60, 30.

SEE!! The end hasn't came and all this shows they are wrong!!

Don't worry in the Religion and Spirituality section this ridiculous 2012 stuff is bad there too!!! Not just that, it is a waste of 5 points. Those 2012 questions are just as annoying in the Geology section just as, "Why is the sky blue? or, Why is the grass green?"

It's the same doom and gloom people who have nothing to look forward to.  People are searching for answers anywhere they can find them in all the wrong places.

People are in large part ignorant of earth sciences.  We aren't very good salesmen on the subject.  It is natural for questions about the fate of the earth (even the silly ones belonging in myths and legends or somewhere else) to arrive here, with the so called experts.  At least it isn't a question about why the sky is the color blue.
