Why does everybody say that married life is hard work?

My husband is 43,I'm 39 and we have been happily married 17+yrs...Lot of people say marriage is hard work but my husband and i have never found married life hard work at all not even from the beginning of our marriage..I guess maybe cause we have always gotten along great and rarely fight.

Your husband has just allowed you the delusion that your marriage is happy.  He has found that it is less stressful to let you believe what you want to.

i dont think marriage is hard work either...hubby and i love each other and the kids and ppl always say how were the sweetest couple theyve known:)

I wouldnt say "hard work", but it does take effort, it takes 2 to work, even simple communication is "effort" compromise is effort, . Hard work ? no, effort Yes.

Consider yourself blessed... congratulations.  I think that many people say marriage is hard work because it is for many couples.  It's not to say that there is an exhausting daily struggle going on... but... many couples do experience issues along the way.  It's tough to put two people together for a long period of time and have no conflict occur somewhere along the line.  It's just human nature.

I agree with you ..my husband and I have only been married over a year but we are best friends. I couldn't imagine life without him and the only time things get tough is when we have money trouble but we always stick together!! I guess what we have is rare

Who pays attention to good news when the tv has bad news.  Its a part of fallen human nature, I guess.

I think its cool that you have a good relationship, and I hope you have a sweet 17 more years.

For most people a good marriage is hard work. But if you are compatible enough .. really enjoy all your time together , then you are blessed with a great marriage ... like you said not a perfect marriage ... but a great one.
