Question:

Why does everybody think the world will end in 2012 when it isn't true?

It gets annoying after a while. I am always here in the Earth Sciences & Geology section answering questions. I always see questions about the world ending in 2012.

The reason why I am asking this question is I want to reassure people that the world will NOT end on December 21, 2012. No human being (or even most brillant scientist) can't predict when the end of the world is coming. Each time the end of the world is predicted they are always wrong. I got proof the world ain't ending in 2012 and here it is:

*Planet X won't hit the Earth, it doesn't exsit

*It could be possible the Mayans got bored with the Calendar and didn't see a point in going further

*Alpha Particles and Sun rays always hit the Earth even now

*The Magnetic Poles won't switch. You are all acting like it will happen in one day. That process takes thousands of years.

So, can somebody please explain to me why you all have issues with believing that the world won't end in 2012?

  1. because we are due for a super valcano erouption

    it can be 2009-2025

i am part mayan and we finish wat we start like the war against the aztec

  2. It is apparent that many people believed the world would come to an end in the year 2000...and we're still here. Fancy that.

  3. Intelligent people will never say the world will end on particular day. The people who spread rumours must be punished.

  4. People believe that since the Mayan are one of the first civilizations that they might have found something that was long since lost that showed them the future of the world. But who really knows. Like you said no one can tell the faith of the world.

  5. Because Jesus said it would.

  6. For YOU yourselves know quite well that Jehovah’s day is coming exactly as a thief in the night.   1 Thess. 5:2    No one knows when the end is coming, only Jehovah.  Do you know when a thief is coming to your house to rob??  If you did then you would be prepared for it.  As the verse states, this day will come as thief in the night, unexpectedly.

  7. It's a pretty interesting topic, what I've read is that it's not necesarily going to end, but maybe it's just going to change.

First of all, no planet x is going to hit the earth, but there are always asteroids getting pretty close and it's hard to predict years from then.

Second, the magnetic poles are already changing, it's a long process, but there are already spots.

Last but not least, I don't know if the world is going to end, but I would say the most probable cause would be a big war or weather changes caused by global warming.

Nobody really knows, but Mayans were a really advanced civilization and maybe they just predicted big changes, because I think we need some changes regarding people's conciousness.

  8. Paranoia?  Something to worry about and distract yourself from real worries in your life?  Economically driven reasons (i.e. milk the Y2K paranoids out of more money)?  Is a government conspiracy to make a quick buck from inciting panic any more unrealistic than a calendar that predicts the end of the world?
