  1. Because they often are. Not inherently, but in practice. Name any large company and I can almost guarantee that I'll be able to list a slew of things that they've done that are detrimental to society.

  2. when companies primary reason is to make more and more profits they sometimes dont care who they hurt. People can get exploited (especially in third world companies, they can cause detirmental problems to the environment and put money before people.

  3. Because they generally become 'large' by swallowing up, or crushing, smaller companies to grow. By necessity they have been 'evil' in some way, at some time, to become large.

  4. Because we usually use the words "good" and "evil" to mean "altruistic" and "selfish."

A "good" person is one who helps others, even if he doesn't get anything out of it...and a *really* good person is one who helps others even if he gets hurt in the process. An "evil" person is one who only pursues their own interests without thinking about other people...and a *really* evil person will pursue their own interests even if other people get hurt. (Then there are sadists, who actually like seeing other people get hurt.)

By that logic, large companies *are* evil. That's how capitalism works--you have to look out for number one. Most big companies will try to balance that with philanthropic community-building charity, but in the end the focus has to be on the bottom line. They're in it for themselves, not the common good...if they happen to serve the common good in the process, that's just a side benefit.
