Why does everyone diss Applebee's? Is something wrong with this restaurant?

What is boring about it? What happens at other restaurants that is so exciting?

It could be that the waiters and waitresses are rude and not friendly.

I think it really is what it proclaims to be"a neighborhood bar & grille". it's nothing spectacular - it's like going over to a friends house.

There's technically nothing wrong with Applebee's, it's just one of your typical chain restaurants that are a dime a dozen. I much prefer independent restaurants.  Applebee's is always crowded on the weekends, has indifferent service and average tasting food.

They seem to lack atmosphere. The servers don't seem to enjoy doing their job. Their job is to take care of their customers who are paying to go their and also paying them a tip to serve them. Other places we've gone (Ruby Tuesday's, Outback, Texas Roadhouse) all seem to enjoy being server's and pass that fun atmosphere on to their customers.

The food at Applebee's is just average and so are the offerings on the menu. When I'm out to eat, I would like great flavor, that's part of the fun going out. We can do regular at McD's.

It's not bad for a quick meal. And a great place to take kids.  Their food is pretty much fast food, a step up from McD's and such.  I prefer a real restaurant with a more varied menu and higher quality food.

it's not bad or great.  it's a good place to go with kids and to get a drink and appetizers.  it's just not as some people are accustomed to.  where i live, you have to drive 20mins to get there and it's still the closests, nicest place to eat.  hhaha

There's nothing wrong, it is just kind of boring.  If you are eating out, chances are you could easily find someplace much much better.
