Question:

Why does everyone freak out about global warming?

I dont see why we are trying so hard to reverse global warming. It wont work. I think the only reason they are saying these things is to get people to buy less gas to save the country money. If no one has noticed, this has happened before. The Ice Age???? People are all worried about certain animals becoming extinct and all that, but thats just the way it goes! Old animals die out and new animals take their place. If the polar bear die, another animal will adapt. Thats the way it always happened and thats the way it always will happen. I dont see why we have to try and change the way the world works just because it doesn't suit us. Ill accept that emissions from cars might have sped it up a bit, but it was inevitable. Why cant everyone just let nature run its course and stop freaking out??? And all you environmentalists, this is a serious question, screaming and cussing at me isn't going to change my mind, be professional and dont just freak out on me for my opinion. Thanks!

  1. I'm kind of with you regarding that it has happened before and its inevitable that it will happen again. However I am opposed to just sitting back and letting animals become extinct. Also we don't don't know what the repercussions would be to just let it run its course because there are so many different factors now then the last time the earth warmed.

  2. It seems to be only the DENIER/skeptics who do the freaking.  I mean they come here in hordes and call everybody idiots and brag about what geniuses they are, misquote some third grade science and generally carry on.  Now you would think if they were smart and all they would have something really useful to do with their time.  I mean, there are probably thousands of things I don't care about or believe, but I don't spend 3 seconds a day on all of them put together.

I guess the theory is that if you go someplace and tell people you care nothing about something and dislike them for being interested in it 3 or 4 thousand times a week that will convert them to not liking it too?   Seems kind of unlikely, doesn't it?  I mean why would they care what I think, I certainly don't care what they think.  Why would I?  I mean none of them seem to be experts or anything.  Most of them just post links and can't even spell.  I mean, why would anyone emulate somebody like that?  They're entitled to their opinion and I'm entitled to mine.  If they don't want to discuss global warming, that's OK with me.  All these posts about how it isn't real or doesn't matter just seem like a lot of backwash.

  3. I don't worry about anything,  I just live my life one day at a time

  4. Global warming is a political argument, not a scientific argument.  Politicians know if they can strike fear into the public, they can raise taxes and limit freedoms.  We see this many times over with the war on poverty, the war on drugs, and the war on terrorism.  However these wars make gvmt dependent on what they are fighting, so the problem never ends.  Now imagine a "war on carbon".

The gvmt could reduce carbon today if they had the desire by building more nuclear power plants.  Electrical generation accounts for 1/2 of the co2 in the air.  But they never will.  The demo'rats energy bill gave huge subsidizes to coal and oil industries, but they did outlaw a light bulb.

Global warming is another attempt to lay fear in the population to justify raising taxes and limiting freedoms.  And it only takes 10% of the population to fall for scams like this for them to accomplish their goal.

"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." [H. L. Mencken]

The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false-face for the urge to rule it. [H.L. Mencken]

"In the end they will lay their freedom at our feet and say to us, 'Make us your slaves, but (protect us from Global Warming) feed us.'" [Dosteovsky's 'Grand Inquisitor']

  5. man made global warming is a myth

  6. www.educate-youself.org

  7. Actually, if you studied the issue a little more you'd learn that our current warming isn't natural or inevitable.

If a chemical plant dumps mercury into a river upstream from your home, would you call that "natural"?  I expect that you would be ticked off at that company and want them to stop.  Likewise, when we emit over 25 giga-tons (that's billion tons) of gases into the atmosphere annually, is that "natural"?  No.  So the key question is, does that amount (25 giga-tons annually) harm our environment in any way?  If not, then you're right "it's no big deal", but if it does (and the science clearly indicates it does) than it's no different than a chemical plant by your home releasing mercury.  The damage to your world is slower, but it's real nonetheless.

Here's a few reputable sites you should check-out:

    http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/glob...

    http://www.ucar.edu/news/features/climat...

Don't base your opinion on a quick decision, without first studying the subject with an open mind.  You may be surprised to find out how convincing the evidence is (I was).

  8. Because everyone feels their world will become a hazardous place to live and for future generations...

  9. I agree, I will be dead when global warming kills us all. why care now? I certainly will not sacrafice my standard of living now for a catastrophe I will never experience.

I am taking that the global catastrophe to be around 2080-2100 from the articles i have read

  10. here is the problem .. we"humans" are the dominating creatures of this planet  so we should worry about every little and big thing especialy the ones we made by our self which means every thing cause any problem or anything that endangers this planet we are the reason for it (think about it .. if we didn't exist on this planet and there were only the animals and planets etc.. it would've ben perfect- no global warming, bad weather, ozon problem, sea level rising every year dangerously - i live in a coastic city and can feel the effect every few years  the shore sand level decreases  slightly more and more , the summer gets hotter every year and winter is colder and more freezing every year-  but cause we put carbon in air ,toxics in water we make problems that we might not be able to solve - and no matter what you do you won't make the big companys that controls industries using petrol and carbon products(such as cars, planes, ships etc) change thier ways and start using electricity ,sun, wind, water power instead simply cause they don't care for any thing other than the money they make and they'll have to spend to make that change - at least we wouldn't have lots of the wars that mainly is about fuel - ... in old days when a kid played in the sun his parents would be happy cause he would grow up healthy but now if he did he could get sun burn easly ,skin cancer, and in cases die-it's been a fact now- so i say we should worry very much .. cause if we just said to our selfs "" hey why should i care byt the time any thing happens i'll be long dead"" then we'd be doing the same thing our fathers did which got us in this mess in the first place

  11. A better question would be why people *aren't* freaking out about it. The answers to that question would be mostly-

*people have been brainwashed into thinking the issue is highly contraversial even though it isn't.

*People believe that the great white father in the sky has the earth all under control and won't let anything bad happen.

*Jayzus-uh is coming back soon anyways so who cares?

*Some people are just totally ignorant about how severely it could effect us all.

  12. YEAH Beth...  Thanks to global warming, Volcanos and Hurricanes and Tornados were only recent occurrences...

    ROTFLMAO

  13. When dinosaurs ruled the earth it was 10 degrees hotter than it s now.  These multi-ton beasts with brains the size of walnuts managed to flourish - not merely survive.  Many would have us believe that a much smaller temperature rise will wipe out man and any animal with big Bambi eyes that will evoke an emotional reaction.

Study what is said and shown and it is obvious that it is an emotional appeal.  The desired response is fear or pity or anything but a reasoned response.

    Propaganda works.

  14. uh hello globalwarming affects all of us, and our soon to be children and grandchilderen...the wildlife and the next generations shouldnt have to deal with the mess that we have created, it is our responsabilty to watch what we are doing...it is good to care bout GW, its not only our planet, we do share it with others...  :)

  15. The only reason I'm concerned about global warming is because we're going to need to continue inhabiting this planet for a few more generations.

You're right that the planet has cycles, and certain species becoming extinct is definitely part of the cycle.

But when the ice caps melt, and there's not enough land to house humans, let alone provide sustinence for us, we're going to be in big trouble.

I believe that we need to do what we can to ensure that this planet can maintain us, until we find a way to colonize another.

  16. In a way you are correct, and if things were not happening so fast then I also would not have a problem, and would be happy to let nature take its course. However the destruction of the environment is taking place at such a rate that I was worried about my child's future and now I am also worried about mine. Part of the human spirit (like any other animal) is to protect it's self. Am I freaking out because I am more aware of the environment and the consequences of it's destruction?

And yes, there have been large changes of the environment previously and these all triggered a huge extinction of specie's and were caused by totally abnormal events, meteors, massive volcano's.

I also don't think that we can reverse global warming but maybe we could slow it down and give humanity a chance to adapt, not that they deserve it.

Sure, the planet will still be here in a million years and probably in a billion years but I am more concerned about the next 100.

I am wondering If the people that are 'freaking out' over global warming are all older than you and therefore more aware of the situation. Not that it is really important but I would guess you are under 27. I am 40 and we therefore would have different view points..... Anyway, we are all entitled to are opinion and at least you did not mention Al Gore in your question.

  17. Have you SEEN the weather news these past few years?

  18. well because the polar bears could get extinct and........................................   i think thats it
