  1. Well I'm a Yankee Fan and i don't hate the guy , i Love the guy as a Baseball Player, but what i dislike about the Guy is he wants to be liked by everyone and try's to impress people, but he just needs to be Alex Rodriguez himself

and another thing the whole off the field issues is what bugs me the Most

  2. I'm a Mariner fan, and when A-Rod steps up to the plate at Safeco Field, you can go half deaf from all the booing.

Before the turn of the century, nobody in the world hated him. Especially in Seattle; but then 2001 came around, and as a free agent, he turned down the Mariners for a 10 year, $252 million contract with the Rangers.

Now that he's with the Yank's for even MORE money, he hasn't quite produced the massive numbers he should, and people think that he is overpaid.

Of course, every MLB player is overpaid to begin with, but A-Rod is just getting a bit out of hand.

  3. I don't personally hate him, but here's why I think lots of people don't like him:

    - He makes SO much money.  It's hard for Joe Average to relate to a guy who makes more to play ~1 game than most people make, working very hard at their jobs, for an entire year.

    - A-Rod's very "closed off" when it comes to the media and interviews.  Super-famous people often put up their guard around media (and understandably so IMO), but A-Rod has never let anyone in the real world see the "real him", ever, on any occasion.  Again, this makes it really hard for Joe Average to relate to him in any way.

    - He's a great player, especially stats-wise, but he's never really shown the ability to step up his game in the clutch and carry the Yankees (like Jeter has in the past, for example).  For a guy making as much as A-Rod, some people think he should be the best player on his team in the biggest games, and he's never played "up" like that in NY.

  4. I think there are various reasons:

    1. Jealousy over the money he makes. This is especially prevalent in Seattle. A lot of people were angry he left for Tom Hicks $$$ in Texas, but for all that money, I'm sure that most of them would have moved to Dallas too.

    2. Post-season failure. This is the focal point of a lot of New Yorkers anger

    3. Bush-league antics on the field - yelling "I got it", slapping the ball out of the pitchers hand

    4. Arrogance/Aloofness - sometimes seems to regard himself as being above the game, does not take responsibility during his slumps

    5. Cheating on his wife

I'm sure others will have other reasons, too. Personally, I agree with you - I think he's one of the greatest players in the history of the game. He appears to have kept himself away from the steroids and his achievements on the field are deserving of respect. He's not a perfect person, but he's a lot closer than a lot of the baseball heroes that were worshiped during the last fifteen years.

  5. I think a-rod is the man

  6. I personally dont hate A-rod at all. I think he's one of the best current baseball players in the league. Top 3 for sure.

  7. He is certainly one of the best players around. That's what makes his history of not coming through in big spots all the more frustrating. Despite his overwhelming talent and being on two great teams, he has not led any team to a title. He had a reputation for not coming through in the clutch (Which has been shown statistically), hitting many homers either when his team has a large lead or an insurmountable deficit. He also tends to vanish during stretch drives and postseasons. Finally, he is not known for being a real team player, having a reputation for putting himself first.

  8. hes a good player. but he buckles under pressure. and his teams are never as good with him as they are without him. texas has been getting better every year since he left. and new york has been getting worse.

  9. i obviously dont hate him cuz i'm a yank fan so not everyone hates him

  10. I don't hate him at all. In fact I think he's the greatest player of our time and when his career is over he will go down as one of the greatest players ever, if not the best player ever.

  11. cant blame the haters

  12. A Rod is arguably the best player ever to wear the uniform.  We just have to see his career end.  He puts too much pressure on himself in the off season and it effects his performance.  I love A-Rod and the way he plays.

Like every great player, people will hate them.  All the Red Sox fans hate him cause they can't watch him play in Fenway 81 times a season.  He is also definitely worth the money.  The Rangers thought so anyway!!!

  13. I don't hate him I just think he isn't worth all that money. Sure there are alot of players that are better than him in the regular season but about 80% of baseball players are better than him in the postseason. I loved him in Texas as a shortstop.

  14. Hi,

    Yankee fan here...

well, we started off by giving him the name and chant 'too much money'... though we weren't paying the majority of his contract.  he wasn't doing well and earned that title.  took a year or two for that name to go away, forgot just how long.

he and our beloved Jeter used to be great friends, but something has changed that they absolutely won't discuss.  Jeter is a high-caliber human being, and if he isn't keen on someone there has to be a pretty darned good reason.

a-rod has been labeled a player - regarding women - friends wives, waitresses, strippers, etc... and, he's married.  latest stuff with madonna is just the latest in a string of low behavior.  in the olden days - when George was in charge - and if a-rod wasn't doing well, a-rod would have been booed and promptly traded.  without George we seem to have lost a moral compass for the Yankees.

a-rod is, admittedly, about the best player ever, so his talents must be respected.  i don't hate him, but, i don't respect him, either - as a person.  we could make the argument about on and off the field and what matters, but these are the Yankees, who are/(were) supposed to exemplify professionalism and good character, on and off the field.

whose name was the Yankee crowd chanting en masse at the all-star game - as well as every regular home game?  Derek Jeter.

a-rod hasn't done much to make us love him, except be a good player.  he doesn't smile as much in the last couple of years, he seems so ego-based, and making errors or outs when he should be playing hard instead of admiring himself.  and, he seems pretty nonchalant about the whole steroids/drugs issue... behavior known as cheating.

a lot of people simply resent him as that over-paid and over-exposed guy, but he is a great talent and sort of deserves all the accolades - even if he, and most athletes, do make too much money.

    hate him?  no, too strong.

like him?  ummmm... well, thanks for helping the Yankees when he wasn't slumping or making errors.  oh, and for raising the looks average on the team, lol...

do i want to see him traded?  hard call.  good player vs scum factor and money?  hard call, nice to see a player with a great professional career retire as a Yankee, but how many good players can we get for his salary?

100 years from now i'd like to see his name as a Yankee, but right now i can take him or leave him.

    that's all i got.

  15. I personally dont hate A-rod at all.  I think he's one of the best current baseball players in the league.  Top 3 for sure.  He doesn't do steroids or anything.  So i dont hate him, but here are the reasons i think OTHERs do.

    1. He plays for the Yankees. A lot of ppl arent too fond of hte Yankees.

    2. He apparently cheated on his wife with madonna.  But this cant be used too much, a lot of ppl hated him before this.

    3. He gets paid a lot of money.  And most fans hate seeing him get paid so much for 4-5 at-bats per game.

    4. He made a lot of errors over the years at 3rd.  This is why some Yank fans dislike him.

    5. A game last year against Toronto.  When he was running to third base, he called out to the Jays' third baseman during a popup, "I got it", thus causing the 3rd baseman to drop the ball.  Many thought this was an act of unsportsmanlike conduct.

    6. The list probably go on and on.

  16. the reason is that he is the highest paid player and hes on the most hated team.. the yankees. If he played anywhere else than he would be loved, like he was in seatlle. He is a decent 3rd baseman that has a killer bat, and another reason he is hated is because he cant seem to do it in the postseason except last year, and even when the yanks lose in the postseason it all comes down on A-rod. He will win multiple championships with the yankees, and once he breaks bonds record he will be loved by all, because of the steriods, and to see someone clean break the record.
