Why does everyone love chicago so much?

ok, i am from chicago, lifelong southsider. i just went to college and when i tell people where i am from they freak out. theyre like "wow, seriously youre from chicago thats so awesome". its a cool city and all, but everyone at my school idolizes chicago. i guess cause ive lived there my whole life the novelty has worn off. what do you guys think?

Australian's think that people in Chicago have to tie their hat's on over there because it's so windy they blow off! lol.

Not everyone.  Not me at least.  I am from Hollywood and it seems to me a lot of people idolize my city too, but I know not everyone does.  I love it here, though.  I think the movies have a lot to do with how our cities are viewed.

I'm Canadian..

To me, Chicago and New York City.. wow haha.

I mean so many movies and TV shows were set in such cities.

(Chicago.. "Family Matters," hey hey? haha).

One of my best friends is moving back to Chicago though.

Send him back up to Canada for me :(

i live and was raised in the chicago suburbs, and want to move into the city ASAP!  people love it because it's so beautiful in pictures, then when you're finally there, there's so much to do!  lots of old movies were filmed in chicago.  people there have style.  also there's a lot of diversity - black neighborhoods, hispanic neighborhoods, greek neighborhoods, a g*y neighborhood...there's something for everyone here.
