  1. these people from the "accented" areas have no shame and will go on for money.  all accents are affected.

  2. Because it enforces the ideal of people in the south laying around inbreeding, s******g each others momma, moving on to their wife, and then porking their daughters. People expect to see some hillbilly action, and he seems to deliver, no matter how stupid it may be.

All people in the south are not like that, but I have met a few.

  3. That's where most of America's trailer parks are located.

  4. As a southern girl I must say that what all of you are saying is highly prejudicial . Second, That in the south not all people are rednecks . And why so many people think it amusing to make fun of our vernacular, I will never know. But how  should anyone know why people on Jerry springer have southern accents ?? But just for you northern people I will say that I do not know anyone who acts like the people on that show do. FYI down here in Mississippi we do occasionally enjoy making fun of all of your northern accents ,so really you people actually sound as equally odd as we do .

  5. Jerry Spring show is set up.  I know this for a fact.  A friend of mine went to see the show and they asked her if she would do a bit.   They paid for her clothes, hotel (she had to stay an extra night etc.....  She did a wonderful acting job....

So maybe, more Southern People go see the show?

  6. because they come from rural areas and are enticed to be on tv for their 15 minutes.

  7. Because that's where Jerry recruits a lot of his guests from..Sometimes these people have never been any further than the piggly wiggly, so they jump at the chance to see the bright lights of the big city. That's why Jerry will always have these crazy people on...They each get something out of it I guess.

  8. Cuz they r all frum the same famly! Heee Haw!

  9. because obviously a majority of the southern people with accents have more and bigger problems then the rest of the world

  10. I have never watched an entire episode, but I have realized that a lot of the people do speak with southern accents.  Maybe it's taped in a city down south.  I'm not sure.

  11. Peace of Mind: I choked laughing, thank you.

That will be my new Myspace quote. ;)

  12. I imagine it has nothing to do with the people who ACTUALLY live in the south.

More likely having people on with southern accents gets better ratings because of the stereotype that people have of those in the south, especially southern blacks. It is more believable to people because of their assumptions that many people in the south are poor, uneducated, and trashy with lots of 'baby mama' problems. These stereotypes have been perpetuated throughout history and the media and entertainment industry have just figured out how to cash in!

  13. Because people often think that people that speak with a southern accents are stupid. Which is far from true. Plus it implies "white trash".

What I don't understand is why Jerry Springer has gone so far, or is even still on for that matter.

  14. Jerry Springer is filmed in Chicago.   Most of his "guests" are from rural Illinois and Indiana.   Those aren't Southern accents.   They're midwestern redneck accents.

Whoever gave the thumbs down hasn't bothered to check their facts.   Jerry Springer IS filmed in Chicago and most of his guests ARE from Indiana or Illinois.

  15. No offense to anyone, but they're mostly rednecks with screwed up problems.

  16. well because they expect southerners to be the ones on the show i mean how many new yorkers have married there transvestite dog (example) but they always expect the south to be dumb and uneducated when yet we are very high;y educated and most of the stuff you see on there is probably more likeley to happen in california

  17. rednecks and hillbillies...all the interbreeders he needs for a show and an audience

  18. Because he, and the producers of the show choose a certain socio-economic type, which just happens to come from the South.

  19. Because people from the South are seen as hicks, so people in other states and overseas can watch Jerry Springer and think 'Jesus, all people from the south are stupid, gross, uneducated, inbred hicks. They're all disgusting.'

  20. You may have noticed that Jerry's guests seem to have less on the ball, and stranger problems (and more of them) than the individuals with whom you normally associate. People of this ilk are generally from the South, where the heat and humidity create a pervasive malaise and propensity for anti-social behavior. Plus a willingness to display it before a wide TV audience. They respond to Jerry's come-on-in ads, and you see the results.

  21. it is really a show for democrats, both Southern and Northern. How many Republicans appear as guests?

  22. I am pretty sure that the show is make believe.

I believe that the show totally type cast! I am certain that not all people from the south behave that way. It's a stereo type that America eats up.

  23. To start with  there are far more trailer parks up north and on Springers show the accents are fake and sometimes more fake than the actors.

  24. May Day! May Day! You are about to enter the 'Don't ask' zone.

  25. they're all from the south silly!

  26. Demographics.

  27. well thier all actors anyway

  28. He only hires people from the south to perform on stage

  29. same reason that tornados are attracted to their mobile homes . A mystery of the Universe

  30. Because , they are alll "Actors" and the "stereotype" for White Trash is to have a southern accent.

How un-PC is that for ya?

    lol

    Peace

  31. Shows like that are based on stereotypes of the lower-class. There are many people in the south that would largely contradict the attitudes and actions of anyone on Jerry Springer.

Remember, reality shows and shows like Jerry Springer are selective and deliberately choose the people that would make the most entertaining television.

There are many people suitable for Jerry Springer from other areas, but the 'redneck' stereotype has already been established within American culture and stereotypes have sadly, been historically used for entertainment.

This comes from the assumption that the average mind is not capable of understanding character complexity, and must see stereotypes. We all stereotype in our own way, it's impossible not to, but I don't know how necessary it is to do it to the extent television does.
