  1. It is marketing more than anything.

  2. im a british guy and as much as it hurts me to say it floyd mayweather is one of the best boxers that has ever set foot inside a boxing ring he deserves all the credit he is getting and more.

  3. It's mainly down to the fact that he is the best P4P at the moment. The guy is also an unbeaten 5-weight world champion. I think the fact that Floyd still has his "O" is a big factor as to why so many people may have him on a pedestal.

Also, while I like Floyd's style in the ring (just like I also like watching clips of Whitaker and Roy Jones in their pomp), I belive a lot of people are making Floyd out to be something that he is not. I am talking about proposing fights against guys like Kelly Pavlik and Jermain Taylor at 160, or believe it or not, a dream fight with Hagler at 160 (that one would only be a nightmare for Floyd - I pointed out that he ducked Margarito, and is ducking Cotto at 147. Therefore why would he go in against Hagler at 160, a weight that he couldn't box at or make anyway?). Other than Cotto and Mosley, people want to see him in fights that his chances of winning are slim to none...and as the old saying goes, Slim has already left town. I think most are agreed on the fact that while he beat DeLa Hoya at 154, he would have been beaten by the likes of Hearns, Leonard, Duran...and Henry Armstrong would have put him through the wringer at 135, IMO

Just some other points to make in closing: If a guy is up on a pedestal, the only way is down, and the landing hurts. And not only that, the people who put him/her on the Pedestal will be left feeling dissappointed as well.

    ADDITION:

    True L~

"Hagler was good but couldn't beat Ray because of boxer beats brawler." Erm, not always. Sometimes the brawler comes out on top. Most notably, Duran against Leonard the first time round, Basilio vs Robinson in the first fight thay had, and more recently, Cotto beating Malinaggi at 140.

  4. People dont like Mayweather because he dont just sit there and brawl. A lot of people didnt like Lenord because of the same reason. In your statement Paulie, there is alot of what if, if he was, if he fought this guy if he fought that guy. IF if was a fith we will all be drunk. If is only if and thats it. I like PbF and other fights, not because he's undefeated. Everyone likes Cotto because he's undefeated like Hatton was. Every fighter thats undefeated goe's agginst PBF, and everyone jumps on the band wagon. Every guy's come's up, they say PbF is ducking him or he's the one. We dont put him on a pedistol, his skills put him there. Hagler was good but couldn't beat Ray because of boxer beats brawler. Everyone liked Mike tyson until he met a boxer and got beat. Mike Tyson was nocking guy's out and brawling. Its fact, people like watching brawler than the sweat science of boxing. Some people hated Jordan because he kelp winning rings. Rather Cotto are anybody else beat PBF, thats when everyone will be happy. If Cotto lose before he fights PBF, that would p**s alot of people off. I think you put him on a pedistol or hates that he keeps winning. If you didn't put him on a pedistol, you wouldn't have put this topic up. Yeh Yeh Yeh, you ask the qestion. I think everytime he wins, some people throws a fit. Its like when your kids cant get what they want in the store, they start throwing fits.

  5. fm's got no marketing value.

nobody wants a horribly boooring fight.

the only reason people watch his fight is because they expect his --- whipped, but so far, none has succeeded.

How can anybody whip up his --- when he runs, ducks and leans back all over the ring. He has perfected his main weapon - evade, evade, evade.

  6. Thumbs up RJJ & John H.

Although he is the best at the moment, he would have far more credibility if he would take on all challenges, as the the other greats did. (Leonard, Duran, Hearns). By avoiding the guys like Cotto, he and his worshippers look pretty foolish.

  7. i'm not about to say that he is that great, but i will say that he makes everyone else look that bad.  he wins fights because he knows how to win fights.  he probably studies his opponent better than any boxer out there right now and this is evident when he steps into the ring.  are his fights the most exciting things to watch....no, but how he makes everyone else look like a fool certainly is.  he definately does his homework and comes into the ring well prepared.

  8. man do you know anything about boxing?he has beaten diego corrallis, oscar de la hoya, ricky hatton, jesus chavez twice,,jose luis castillo twice, carlos baldomir, zab judah, arturo gotti.he knocked out diego corrallis,he knocked out arturo gotti,he knocked out jesus chavez,he knocked out ricky hatton.hearns proved through his career that he always loses the big one.like to lenard, hagler,or barkley.duran proved he was a quiter when he quit agianst ray leanard because he said lenard would not stand still.i think the only good fight would have been against sugar ray leanard.but even still he had mistakes.mayweather still would have beaten him.so before you judge the best today why don't you go get your facts straight.

  9. I'm not sure!!He's not even in the top ten in his class all time!!If he wants to be seen as one of the greatest then he has alot of work to do!!Cotto would be a good start!!

  10. Why are retired fighters put on such a pedistal?  I'm sick of hearing the "Somebody Today vs. Somebody in the Past"  question and reading every answer saying that the old guy would win.  IT CAN'T BE TRUE IN EVERY FRICKIN CASE.  And especially not in Floyd's case.

I will admit that those were some great fighters, but why dismiss Floyd so fast?  He's beat everyone he's faced, and a lot of them were quality Fighters.  Castillo twice, Gatti, Coralles, Zab Judah, DLH, Hatton.  And he aint done yet.  What happens if he beats Cotto and a few other of the top welterweights before he hangs up the gloves?  Does it matter who he beats, or are you too busy swinging from the nuts of the retired guys, like everone else?  Floyd's just as quick as the fighters you named and his defense is better.  And don't tell me there has ever been anyone with better boxing intelligence.  Floyd may or may not be undefeated in those guys era, but he for sure would have beaten some, if not most of them.

  11. I asked some questions on here a few weeks ago like Mayweather v Hearns etc. and opinion was unanimous that all the greats (Hearns, Leonard, Robinson) would beat him easily and that he is not in the same class. He's just one of the best p4p's AT THE MOMENT.

  12. in my oppinoin , he's not , but the one thing  i have to give him credit  for is his quikness, but other then that he is over rated, i think cotto would entertain people most  then mayweather, mayweather never hardly looks for knockouts, he just scores point , so he is over rated, i agree
