Ok, it seems like most people spell cord (as in network cord) as "chord"...what's up with that?!

  1. it can be used interchangeably when referring to electrical wire that plugs into a wall.  They're commonly using it incorrectly.

  2. I am not sure what or who you mean by 'everyone', I have not used chord in that way. For many definitions go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chord . I couldn't see where it would be used when defining anything in a network.

  3. Because people have gotten lazy in writing in emails and the like. The first answer you have here, while people may use them interchanging them, they are not the same.

Cord:  What your computer gets it power through, the power cord.

Chord:  From my stand point of a guitar player, a set of musical notes that one plays.

I also believe that a certain amount of wood (for a fireplace) is also a cord, but not sure of the spelling.
