Question:

Why does everyone say the golf swing is the same for every club?

I hit my short irons (6 iron through pw) just fine, but I cannot hit my longer shafted clubs (driver through 5 iron). I constantly shank or slice the longer shafted clubs, which makes me think that you DO have to swing DIFFERENTLY since I hit my short clubs straight and long. Whats going on? I know I should take lessons but I am hoping for some baseline tips.

Ive been doing some reading, and maybe I should replace my 19 degree 3 hybrid with a higher lofted 5wood or 7wood. I dunno.

  1. The tempo for the normal shot hit with each club should be the same, whether you are hitting the 3 wood , driver or 3 iron. Your swing plane will change from a slight reach with the longer shafted clubs to a more upright swing plane as the shafts get progressively shorter. Before you go replacing clubs be sure you know how to use them. The good mechanic can perform with  any box of tools.

  2. If you are trying to swing differently for different clubs that's probably why you are having trouble hitting them, It's hard trying to get one swing right let alone another one for a different club. Maybe you are thinking negative once you have that club you can't hit in your hand, try having the same thinking process for each club, it will help.

    Have a good one...

  3. You can search on http://www.youtube.com/ for some golf lessons

    Have good luck

  4. It's not the same for every club, for the shorter clubs, your have to stand closer to the ball and make a more up-and-down swing motion.  For longer clubs, you stand farther from the ball, swing with a sweeping motion, and swing harder.
