Question:

Why does everyone think all this Green Environmental Hype is new?

We have created the situation we are in:

Years ago all grocers and greengrocers gave goods in paper bags.

Our milkman now delivers in plastc containers, milk bottles were the original recycling.

Years ago all beer botles, lemonade bottles etc could be returned and a deposit fee obtained, then they were washed and refilled.

The original takeaway was fish and chips and it was wrapped in newspaper, now you get non-degradable polystyrene containers.

We have created todays problems when we were better environmentally years ago!!

What do other people think?

  1. Living on a farm, our milk came in a bucket, straight from our beloved Jersey house cows.

    No chemicals or pesticides used.

There were hedgerows and trees, providing food, shelter and an ecologically balanced healthy environment.

Hessian sacks were used and reused for storing anything from grain to coal.

We cycled or walked miles to the nearest village for anything we needed.

That was less than 70 years ago, because we believed in taking care of the environment, the food we ate and the air we breathed.

It will take a long time and a lot of effort to repair the destruction.

  2. Yes - I quite agree with you - and just look at how much of it is due to the "do-gooders" of the world - You mustn't eat fish and chips out of a newspaper because the ink might poison you:

1: It didn't, and 2: There was always a piece of white paper first - the newspaper was just the outer wrapping.

Milk bottles - those lovely little plastic and card triangular containers which exploded milk when you tried to open them - even the inventor ****** it up when he demonstrated them on TV (anyone remember???) and that led to plastic bottles. Bring back glass bottles and the milkman (What's my name....!) and he would deliver your milk AND collect the bottles for re-use, thus, no more plastic to get rid of and the glass is automatically recycled.

Do you REALLY want me to go on............

We brought it all on ourselves and we could just as easily undo it with just the tiniest bit of thought ! ! !

  3. I agree..why for eg is fruit and veg packed in plastic? You used to get it in paper bags at the green grocers. I remember the pop van coming round to collect the returns at 10p a bottle ....we even had a fish ,potato and bread delivery. Progress isnt always for the best and we can learn a lot from how things used to be.

Maybe we can all do our bit by changing our shopping habbits and steering clear of the worst offenders -supermarkets.

  4. I'm with you on that one. I remember returning the lemondade bottles to the shop and got my few pence!

  5. Sir you have now idea of history. All dirt roads used to have trash on both sides. Rivers were also dumping grounds. People used to dump used motor oil on roads to keep dust down. Factories used to dump chemicals out in the parking lot. In my opinion your perspective is off.

  6. yeah its true as we r improving our technology we forget that we  should care for our environment. we have become more selfish. anyways we have to suffer for all these.
