Why does ex believe child support is unfair?

My ex (off-and- on 7 years) is making a big deal about me asking for child support. He tells me I'm just being greedy and want him to pay my bills. But in all honesty, i can and always have paid my own way and never needed or asked him for anything.i actually make more than him, and I'm basically fine... i don't want his money for personal use, but is it fair that because i have a better job i should do it all by myself? i think he should contribute more and he thinks its unnecessary. i have my son 95% of the time, and i have always done everything alone. why is this too much to ask? and he even has less bills than i. i told him we could decide amongst ourselves what we thought was fair, but he refuses. should i just file a court order? am i wrong here?

Best way to settle on child support is through the courts otherwise this situation will keep coming up. Its natural you want him to pay more, and he wants to pay less. Thats how most people would be about it I guess.

If it's his child, he should pay child support no matter who makes more money.  He is equally responsible for the welfare of the child.  He sounds incredibly selfish.   Stand your ground.  Have the courts decide.   Stop trying to play nice at this point.  He will never play nice with you.  He will continually cause problems.  You need a person of power to set him straight.  He will never listen to you and he obviously doesn't care about the child.
