Why does fedex smartpost update every evening/businessday instead of every minute?

Because they cannot actually update where your box is every minute.  I work for FedEx and the way it works is the packages are scanned into their Hub they are being shipped from.  They are Updated.  They are then scanned into a trailer.  Updated again.  They travel to their destination.  When they arive and are unloaded they are scanned into that particular Hub.  Updated again.  They are then put on Local delivery trucks and scanned into them.  Updated again.  And then shipped to your Home.  Last update!  There is no possible way for them to update it every minute as they are only update when they are scanned into a new place.  If they update it and say that it is leaving so and so place it couldl take days for it to get there.  So in turn there would be no update for those couple of days because nothiwng changes.  Besides, im sure that the system that they use is probably set to do update at a certain time everyday.  I handle over 5,000 packages a day and could you imagine every single on of those packages being updated every minute of every day?  I mean come on that really isn't all that logical and it's not really any different than any other company.

What would the point be in posting "every minute"? I can see it now:

10:00am: Box on shelf, awaiting pick-up

10:01am: Box still on shelf, awaiting pick-up

10:02am: Box hasn't moved, still on shelf

10:03am: Box is still on shelf

10:04am: Guy walked by and looked at box; box still on shelf

10:05am: Box hasn't moved, still on shelf, guy walked by again

10:06am: Box still on shelf, bug crawled across top

10:07am: Bug still on box, which is still on shelf
