Why does firemountaingems.com have these shipping fees for out of U.S orders even for beads.?

So I did a test to see how much the shipping would cost for beads from Austria, I randomly bought 200 units of beads with and order totalling of about 415 dollars. After savings, the shipping cost showed up 178$ Us which is and outrageous sum for such small items and that was only the most economical option. I mean comeon you can ship all those items in a lettermail and stamp which won't cost more then $1.50. I tried messing around with it a bit further and bought about 10k worth of items same nonsense with the shipping now totals 3k. Well aleast, they seem to have free airmail for Canadians for over a certain amount, I'm gonna have to look into this since I'm from Canada.

You can't put $415 worth of beads in an envelope.  They will need to be put in a box and shipped, and that will cost you shipping, customs and anything else seeing how you live in Canada and they are coming from the States?
