  1. It's difficult to explain how difficult teaching is.  You should try it sometime.

You have to think about what the students are doing - are they paying attention; should I stop that behavior, should I remind this student to do what he is supposed to?  At any one time there may be 20-30 students (or more) you have to be aware of and keep an eye on.

You have to think about the lesson that you are teaching, and about presenting it to the students.  Are they getting it?  Is there some way you can make it clearer if they are not?

You have to think about the time - are you on schedule?  You can't talk too long.  Students have to have time to process, practice, and so on.

You have to constantly try to connect what you are teaching to what students already know, or they won't understand it.

You have to manage papers and assignments, correct students' mistakes as they begin to learn.

Also, first time teachers may be nervous and doubt themselves.

Teaching is a real juggling act, with a lot going on, a lot to think about all the time.

    It gets easier with practice.

And if it's done well, it looks as if it's easy!
