  1. Because most times FL gets the hurricane "fresh" off the ocean, making it a more powerful storm. Once it hits land, it starts to lose it's strength, making it less of a threat to states above FL. Florida gets more hurricanes than any other states, and we get the worst storms, in general that is. Fay is an odd one out - we got it as a Tropical Storm, and now it's hitting AL as a hurricane, which is uncommon.

  2. Florida usually gets the worse of it. Once it hits land, it weakens and states like ALABAMA only get rain and wind.

  3. Florida is very flat topographically and very sandy.  There is little land for the hurricane to cross.  Crossing land lessens the severity of the winds.  They have more coastline.  Most of the damage done is either from wind (which would not have lessened) and waves (which have a lot of coastline to hit).  The amount of coastline of Alabama is almost non-existent compared to that of Florida (53 miles compared to 1350 miles).

However, if it hits you, it doesn't matter to you how hard it hit anyone else....

  4. O.o  They get hit uber hardcore.  shut up

  5. media manipulation

  6. All of the rich people live in Florida and because of that they get all of the useless media where the reporter is talking about how they're putting boards over their windows, and buying canned food.

  7. Probably because they're a peninsula and the hurricane can come in three different directions.

  8. Because that's where all of the old people live, and they complain constantly about everything.

Also there's nothing important or interesting in Alabama.

  9. because florida is way at the bottom and if you want to get the stuff that hits florida then move down here
