Why does food at the airport cost so much?

Was at LGA the other day and saw that the Soda machines were flashing up $3.50 for a bottle of soda.

  1. Because its 5 star cuisine.


  2. Captive audience. Works the same way for amusement parks, movie theatres, sporting events, etc.

  4. they can charge whatever they want to make a profit since you are not going to find anything cheaper unless you go out of the airport and find a local store. very out of your way to save a few bucks so everybody just fork over the xtra money to buy something at the airport while waiting for their connecting flight.

    Once you're in the airport (and past all the security), who is going to see the $3.50, walk out of the terminal, and leave the airport to get one $2 cheaper.

    Same with amusement parks, concerts, and the like.

    #2 If you want to eat, you have to eat there.  It's not like you can drive down the street to another restaurant.

    They know you will pay it, so they charge it.
