  1. because of inpurities so salt water freezes much more slower..we all know that if we add salt to something, especially food, it prolongs itz decomposition state..same goes for the water..it makes it diff to freeze due to the impurities in it..brings down the freezing point..Itz also much more diff to boil compared to fresh water.

  2. Liquids have special things about them, called "colligative properties." That's a fancy word for saying thing about a liquid change, like freezing point and boiling point, depending on what's dissolved in them.

In general, liquids undergo freezing point depression and boiling point elevation, depending on how much stuff is floating around, dissolved in them. That means it takes a colder temperature to freeze the liquid, and a hotter one to boil it.

Salt is NaCl, and when it is dissolved in water, it breaks up into ions, Na+ and Cl-. These two things make it harder for water to freeze. You need to make it colder than normal with these solutes (things that dissolve) in it.

As far as I know, for this change in freezing point,it doesn't matter what kind of stuff is dissolved in water, just how much stuff. The more stuff dissolved in it, the lower the freezing point and higher the boiling point.

Ever think about why we put salt on snow? Maybe your project can answer that. Good luck.

  3. Ice crystals are an almost perfect array of pure water molecules with almost no salt in it. To make that out of pure water requires limiting the ways the water molecules move around. To make that out of salt water requires BOTH limiting the ways the water molecules move around AND limiting the ways the salt can move around (it’s stuck in the liquid, or in separate crystals), which is harder to do.

The Na+ and Cl- ions are lowering the freezing point but any molecules dissolved in water will produce similar results. Salt is merely convenient and very soluble.

  4. actualy this salt water is called as brine solution in the Industry of refrigeration industry...

Salt basically lowers the freezing ponit of water..

  5. Fresh water freeze faster than salt water because water with salt causes freezing point depression, a colligative property. Fresh water freezes at 273.15K and salt water below 273.15K...
