Why does glass smash if you throw it from a hight?

not only glass generally everything that shatters like cups and plates etc, why is it?

  2. This is due to the physics term impulse. Impulse is the amount of force acted upon an area in a specific amount of time. Force is equal to the mass times acceleration. So the higher you throw it the more acceleration the glass will have which means the more force. When the glass hits the ground it lose energy in the form of sound thats why you hear the noises but if the force is large enough to break the molecular bonds, then the glass shatters and also emits sounds due to the loss of energy.
