  2. meter can suck it, i've read plenty of good poetry without meter, meter is for poets who lack ability to emit beauty so they use technicality to make up for it and it works, some poets have it all but i think its bogus

  3. It doesn't. But if you use a meter you can play with it and vary it - allowing you to place emphasis on certain significant parts of the poem or highlight changes in mood. It can impress subject matter, mood and tone and give cadence.

  4. First off, all poetry has meter; it can be all over the place and out of sync, or it can be structured to give the piece a good rhythm. Seeing how poetry is about sound, the better the rhythm the easier it is to remember--like a good hook in a pop song.

  5. Good poetry is something that evokes emotion from the reader, whether that is sadness or joy or anger or whatever. That's what really determines good poetry.
