Why does gossip spread faster when the story is about something bad than when it is something good ?

I mean if someone has gotten a promotion you dont hear about it but when they got in trouble or getting a divorce news travels fast?Are we that insecure in ourselves?

people prefer to hear about those who are doing worse than they are, not better.  It makes them feel good about themselves

People like gossip.

It makes them feel better to have something bad happen to someone else.

Just the way society works.
