Why does gum tend to get harder after you chew on it for a long time?

or is this just your jaw hurting, because i will chew on gum for hours

  1. Usually because working the rubber in the gum for a while toughness it. Also, some gums turn all nasty and non chewable after a while and not hard...


  2. Gum has some pretty wierd ingredients in it, and so it has rubber-like substances. That's why you shouldn't swollow it (even though it won't hurt to...) But it also has the flavor ingredients, among others. As you chew it, you slowly swollow the flavor and stuff. This eventually leaves mainly the rubbery stuff that isn't as soft. Gross, huh?

  3. omg me 2 i love gum after  hours the flavor gets lost and gum gets harder

  4. I can't stand that, and it is harder to blow bubbles too...
