  1. Who is this guy, and why do we care?

    Just say, No to gambling.

  2. I believe most of his bets were Win and exactas.  He bets to win money for the television audience's pleasure.

  3. because if one fails, he'll make half of it back on the other

  4. If you have the funds to do exotics, they can make you a lot of money.  I was really pretty good at the beat the handicapper contest last year.  They gave us a mythical $50 to bet and we could only spend $20 of that on exotics... the rest had to go to ordinary WPS bets.  With $20 to risk in the exotics, you can cover a lot of bases.  If you can figure out a top 5 horses and you have enough money to trifecta box them, you're going to be rewarded with a couple hundred dollar payout.

I disagree with some of the bets he makes just because I like to be a little more careful than he is.  In a case where I'd exacta box the 1, 2, and 3, he's take the 1 and 2 over the 3 and the 3 over the 1 and 2.  Mine is the safer bet, but costs a little more... I think it's seen as a little weaker... top handicappers think they're smarter than that... they shouldn't have to box all the horses.  Maybe if I had the kind of bankroll that Hank Goldberg has, I'd take a different outlook.  But to me, if you think the 1 and 2 are good enough to come first or second, it's a big risk to not take them boxed... his way, you get a pay out only if the 3 comes in with them.  My way, I'd get a pay out if the 1 and 2 come in together and something happens to the 3.

I think what Hank typically does is do at least one exotic bet and then puts a little extra to win on the horse that he thinks is the best in the race.  that way if the other horse in the exotic doesn't come in, you still get money for your horse.

  5. I think he puts $80 on the exacta and $20 for the win.  If you want to win money, bet against Hank's picks.  I've never seen him get it right with the horses.

  6. Hank Goldberg is an idiot.I do not understand why ESPN keeps him around.
