Question:

Why does height bother me but speed doesn't ?

Hi,

I am scared of heights.

I cannot go up a ladder without closing my eyes & freezing.

I sometimes have to climb a microwave comms tower at work, to bung a meter on it to sort out a prob.

I am terrified

Then I leap onto a Honda Valkerie, 1600cc, and tear off in a smoking back tyre at up to 129 mph.

No problem.

Why am I simply scared of heights ?

  1. I think a lot of people perceive speed to be thrilling, rather than dangerous. There is a challenge to controlling a fast car or bike at high speed which appeals to the adrenalin junkie in most of us.

I'm quite happy driving at "some" mph on a twisty road, but get nervous standing on a chair if I have to change a light bulb!

  2. its because you have phobia for height

and that phobia will not affect you when you are not in the high place

    so enjoy your speed

  3. Well this is something you will really have to work on if you want to solve it.

The best advice I have for you is to just try relaxing yourself, tell yourself "whats the worst that could happen?" I mean seriously, the chances are so slim anything bad would happen.

  4. Phobias are by nature irrational don't worry yourself over it.

  5. I don't really see how the two fears are related. The only thing they have in common is, if you're really high up, you're gonna be going really, really fast when you hit the ground. I think you feel like you're more in control of the situation when you're on your bike, therefor, no fear.

  6. Im exactly the same way. I hate hieghts but I love speed. For me I like speed just because i fell secure being close to the ground where were supposed to be lol
