Why does helium have an atomic number of 2 and atomic mass of 4??

  1. atomic number is the number of protons...atomic mass is the number of protons and neutrons added together


  2. Because it contains 2 electrons in its shells and it contains 2 neutrons in its nucleus

    And atomic number= no. of electrons (or protons)

    Atomic mass = no. of electrons + no. of neutrons

  3. 2 proton - an atomic number of 2

    2 protons and 2 nuetrons -= a mass of 4
