Why does ice have to float in order for life to exist?

  1. Well there is many reasons for this first of all the polar animals need this ice to live on. Ice also reflects much of th eheat that is inside the atmosphere back into space so that the world does not over heat and help the green house effect even more. as well as the water in ice helps 20ft of vertical land stay dry instead of underwater


  2. I think that when ice floats, it turns the surface of the poles white. During some necessary times or over warming, ice caps slowly moves out of the poles and reflects sun rays back to space, this auto-regulates ocean temperature.

    Life needs some kind of temperature regulation, so again, I think that ice floating helps to regulate the planet temperature and with it, life is able to continuing developing.

    Another possible reason is that ice floating it may break from the cap and roam free transporting small life forms embedded into the ice to other lands or oceans.
