Question:

Why does it make you feel better if the democrats want to tax "the rich", or "corporations"?

I just wanted to get the real reasons. I am not by any means "rich". I bust my butt 80-90 hours a week to make my little store generate some money. If I invent the next great widget and make a lot of money from it, why should I be punished with a confiscatory tax because I did it better than you could?

You do realize, don't you, that not one single corporation in the U.S. pays a penny in taxes. We, the consumers who purchase their products and services pay those taxes as they are calculated into increased prices. Why should we be paying more?

Isn't it all just about jealousy. If you can't be one of the rich ones, then hurt those that could do what you couldn't?

How could that possibly make your life better?

  1. ***To the first poster, the questioner never addressed small businesses, please read the question thoroughly.

***Floyd G, I fail to see how making one person pay an unproportionate amount of taxes is fair.  Could you please explain your logic in coming to this conclusion? I also want to illustrate the point that if you continued to do this, as people's income increased, you would eventually take 100% of someone's paycheck.  Essentially, the person making the most money would recieve less than someone earning less than them.

I actually find this question very interesting.  I always thought to argue against the tax raises (for reasons not worth reiterating for a millionth time in this post of mine) but I never thought to ask advocates of tax raises why they felt that way.

I suppose, now that you mention it, that it is out of jealously.  I also do not understand why Democrats want to tax the rich at a higher tax rate that others.  I am by no means a rich person, I work full time as a bellman at a Hotel, definitely no CEO or doctor.  Regardless, I still consider it unfair to tax others more because they managed to make something of themselves.  And by allowing that sort of policy, it doesn't serve to encourage anyone else to strive to follow in the path of success.

Then there is the argument that "well those rich people jsut go all their parents money when they died, they didn't earn it, it's not fair!"  It is the right of any individual to decide what they want to do with their wealth when they die, and what would be unfair, would be to deny them that right.  When you get to the root of the argument Democrats throw around regarding inheritance tax, it also boils down to a matter of jealousy.

  2. LOL corp's certainly do pay taxes. atleast money will be spent on citizens of the country instead of stupid wars for personal gains and nothing more

  3. by your ideas... most of America is incompetent and stupid... most people will never come up with the next great idea... most people will never be rich...

and if people happen to be born of lower intelligence, which by the odds, 50 percent of America is... they are, by all intensive purposes, stuck in the lower middle class to poverty... and if you had your way... EXTREME POVERTY...

do people who aren't the smartest, that lower 50 percent, deserve to be able to own a home... make a decent living?

because with out taxes and government laws... they wouldn't be able to...

why do nations that have little government influence in business and ultra low taxes have HUGE, EXTREMELY POOR POVERTY RATES?

why don't you go to a slum in Bombay and ask them how great their life is...

we don't have slums over miles of land... that's how it makes people's lives better...

basically, what I'm asking you is... where does your idea work?

and do you care about those who may no be as naturally gifted as you are?

EDIT: is it fair... not really... but it's not fair some people are born with great intellect either... life's not fair...

and if you give those who are born with natural advantages an even playing field... they will dominate, and those who can't keep up will have little quality of life...

  4. lol good for you for working hard!

its all about lazy *** people wanting to get something for nothing.  that's why programs like welfare still exist

  5. I think first off you might want to read up on how the tax system works in this country.  Secondly, I must say that with a country has"free" as we like to say, I think what you said is part of the problem.  Think about this.....If we all love this country as much as we do, then why would any of us bawk at the chance to help support it financially?  It is no different with charities.  Although you may not know exactly what is happening to your money, you donate because you believe in at least the concept of giving charity; the concept of helping out someone other than yourself.  The problem is that this is not always reality and not everyone gives for these reasons.  Some give with only the idea of profit in mind.  Thus the free country ideal.  However, if you have more money than most, why would you again bawk and the ability to give more to a cause than others?  Why is that concept so hard for many to understand.  Regardless what party you belong to, the understanding of that must be clear.  Because at this moment not everyone will have the equal paycheck of 1mil a year, those you are making those bigger paychecks should want to give more than those who cannot.  And the middle class should do the same, give as much as you can.  What I find disturbing is people do not always think this way.  It usually takes some kind of horrible tragedy to get people to donate anything; which speaks volumes on how united we actually are.  Personally, if I was loaded, I would give more because I have the ability to.  The idea of taxes and forcing people is only because without it people lack the quality to just give without payment of reward.  When we get there, then ideas of taxes will cease easily.

  6. The answer is simple fairness.

Who should pay? The people who made a great deal of money.

Who can least afford to pay taxes and survive in the current economy? Almost everyone making less than $75,000 a year!

You want hard working Americans to feel sorry for someone who made $400,000,000 having to pay a fair percentage of that income/profit in taxes?!?

    Clueless.

  7. That's how the conservatives managed to take office. They were voted in by millions of people who voted against their own interests. To a great extent they were people like you, people who were siding with big corporations and the ultra-rich, just in case you struck it rich sometime you might be able to take advantage of those tax breaks the lobbyists got for their corrupt cronies.

Just like working people who do not support the minimum wage because they imagine that someday they might be in a position to pay somebody $1.50 an hour. Just like people who think that their own health insurance will cover them, when in fact the next serious illness they have may result in nonpayment and policy cancellation, while they rail about how other people would abuse the health care system if they had benefits.

  8. Obama has already said many time he will not increase the tax rate on small businesses...please read his platform.

Plus, if you say that corporations do not pay taxes, then you are in favor of a tax that cannot be passed onto consumers?  If you do, I certainly agree with you on that.

Corporations need to - and will - pay their fair share.

  9. Well in america taxes are useless because all you spend money on is war! In other nations the more you earn, the more your taxed is in place so that those with no money can have a life! SOCIAL SECURITY!!

And you say that taxes are passed onto consumers... OBVIOUSLY!!! Who has the money? consumers! how do businessed get consumer's money? goods and services! so how does government get said money? taxing business who transfer that to G&S Price which gets paid by consumers!

Would you prefer that taxes were nonexistant and that we lived in anarchy (governments need money to run)

    GO STUDY ECONOMICS!

  10. The Dems know wealth envy is a vote-getter, especially by those that they have on the government gravy-train.  I especially like Obama's "tax the evil oil companies" plan.  Great.  He's not for drilling and increasing the supply (thus lowering prices) but he's all for taxing the companies that WANT to supply us with more oil, and it doesn't take an economics genius to know that those taxes will be passed on to the end-user in higher prices.  It's the same in all businesses, increased cost on the production end (including taxes)= increased price in the end-product.

In the end, it's wealth-envy.  If you can't get it through your own labor or by asking, enlist the government to get it for you from others by force.

To "Saucy":  There is a huge fundamental difference between taxes and charities.  With a charity I freely choose to give what I have earned to who I deem deserving.  With taxes I am forced to give, and often that forced (some might say robbed) income is given to those I deem deserving and undeserving.  Why should I not be pissed off about being forced to give to those that are I deem underserving and who have not paid for my income with their own time and effort as I have?  If they want something, let them ask and give a compelling reason.  Street beggars have much more of my respect than socialist Democrats.

to "in vito":  Obama said he will not raise capital gains taxes on small companies.  Small companies pay NO capital gains taxes currently.  Some concession, but people like you buy it, so it worked, didn't it.  Another one sold on Obama's false promises.

The answer is the Fair Tax.  Research it, learn it, love it.
