  1. hmmm

  2. The more nations under NATO, the stronger the alliance is and the less likely any country will attack one of them.

  3. Russia wouldn't have attacked Georgia if they'd been in NATO.

Thanks, France and Germany, for blocking Georgia from NATO.  This war is on your conscience.

  4. so they can resolve a treaty with russia and end all future conflict

  5. its the same reason the cold war was fought. russia wanted georgia to side with them instead of nato. russia has influence over the countries near it, and they like it like that. just like in the cold war, the US, Democracy and NATO is evil to them, the same way we look at them and Communism.

  6. I think it would be not only symbolic politically but it would also "officalize" any actions taken by them or on their behalf.

  7. If they were in NATO right now, we would be required to go to World War III.  That's why.

  8. It is considerably more complicated than that. NATO is a treaty organization, any attack on a NATO country means the rest of NATO responds. Not something that would appeal to Russia. Georgia is the terminis of a major oil pipe that delivers oil to Europe. Russia wants to control it.

Russia was the "other" world power through most of the 20th century, they want their power and prestige back, that means buffer states and controlling the buffer states.

Georgia is a small fry, been too friendly with the US and threatening to become a member of the NATO posse. They were an easy target with which Russia could make a statement. That statement "we're back".
