Question:

Why does it matter so much to some fans if Jason Varitek has a "C" his jersey?

I hear people criticizing Jason Varitek all the time for wearing the "C" on his jersey to symbolize that he's the captain.

What I wanna know is...why does it matter to you? Is a little "C" really affecting your life so much that you have to complain about it? If he wants a "C" there, so what?

Why are people so rude about the fact that he has a "C" on his jersey?

This question isn't "ranting"...I'd really like to know.

  1. Varitek is a great player and deserves to have that.  I have no problem with it.

  2. If the fans really hate it, then the fans should think that the "C" stands for "c**p"

I dont know why it bothers people

I think the Baseball should have more Captains anyway

Its Cool how Hockey has it

They even have an "A" for "assintant Captain"

People feel the same way with Jeter

EDIT: Aarogant, I use that word alot, lol

EDIT #2: Killzone, you just made my day

  3. to me it doesn't, i'm happy for him and his C, all captains should wear one if they want to

  4. Well as a Yankees fan, I find it quite funny that one of the worst players on the team is the captain haha.

  5. As a Red Sox fan there's no problem with a C on his shirt. People are just jealous he has a C on his shirt and their players don't.

  6. ... geez Greta calm down girlfriend!  Although i'm more for the quiet and not publicly recognized captains i have no problem with Tek's "C" on the jersey at all! :)

this is SO not his season though.. >.< those numbers.. do not look good :(

  7. Honestly, i have never heard of that C issue before.  I know he has it, but i havent heard any complaints before.

But my reasons for possibly complaints is that, no one else in the MLB seems to have a C.  Theres captains, but no one shows it.  I remember Mike Sweeney when he was a Royal wore his C proudly.

I personally have no problem with Varitek wearing a C.  Theres a C and two As on every hockey team.

If ppl are compliaining, they are just overreacting.

  8. I'd like to know this too...I'll check back on my answer later to see the responses.

  9. Why is that even an issue? God I'm sorry but people who worry about stuff like that need to get a life seriously. Find something else more important to be upset about.

  10. it doesn't give him any responsibility really, its just to resemble that he shows good leadership.  Teams dont need a captain, and they really dont do anything extra when they receive the role, just to show they show leadership.

  11. It's Yahoo Answers! People think that Derek Jeter is a member of the Jonas Brothers! Even worse they think the Jonas Brothers are a good band!

He made the choice to wear the "C" on his jersey but i understand where these people are coming from. He is having an awful year but even with that he is the leader of the team! Give him a break people and look past the statline!

  12. It means captin boston has only has three captin Jim rice is the other guy who was a captin.

There critzing him beacuse of his bat average wich is .215

Though he calls a fanstic game

  13. he doesn't have to be the best player to be the captain. He's still a great leader and amazing catcher, no hitters have a lot to do with the catcher.

  14. They're just trying to find a way to insult the Red Sox and their players.  It's just a pathetic excuse FOR an insult.

EDIT: lol, on the advertisement thing on the side of the page, it's advertising a "Meet s**y Black People" website.  What the h**l is that?  Don't those things usually have to do with the question?

  15. Actually, the owners presented him with the jersey with the "C" after he was re-signed after 2004. I don't know how he feels about it but, it should not make a difference to anyone.  I know that a lot of captains don't wear the "C" on their jerseys but, it should be personal preference.

  16. Oh I thought the C on Varitek's jersey stood for "C your way out of the batter's box". No I'm kidding, I agree with SF Giants for Life, I think they should have more captains, it shows the veteran presence on the team that much more. I also think it affects the youth of today. I feel like when a child sees Varitek with a "C" and he turns over to his dad and asks what the "C" is for, he will appreciate that player a little bit more since the young boyol' now understands what the "C" represents.

  17. I always saw the "C" as a symbol of what he means to his team. Take him out, and their pitching staff would probably struggle. He means so much leadership wise and defensively for the Red Sox. Some fans refuse to look for things other than offensive numbers. The minute a player has a hard year fans jump on them and criticize them. I don't really care who is captain or who makes all star games or anything. What matters is that a team wins and the Red Sox are doing that despite the fact that his numbers are low.

  18. Maybe it just stands for Catcher.

    joking.

He deserves that C on his jersey.
