Why does it matter what the electron charge is?

I want to know, what is the point of knowing the charge on an electron, what can we do with that value, what does it help us achieve???

  1. It helps us predict how certain chemical and electronic processes will work before we try them out.  It weeds out a little bit of trial and error that comes with developing technology
