The Gulf Stream, a huge current of warm water flows past the uk, it interacts with the cold atmosphere of the uk which is a northern county, the result is a lot of rain.

It's in what is known as a "west coast maritime" climate. Basicly; cool, humid air following the prevailling air currents travel from the west in the ocean over the land masses of western Europe north of Iberia. They bring lots of cool, damp weather. Similar climates can be found in N.America's Pacific Northwest, parts of Chile and part's of New Zealand as well.
