because its 150 years of footy so they put 150 on the 50 meter mark

Thetruepath: The AFL was born from the VFL, it's the same league and the interstate teams have merely been invited into it.  The AFL/VFL is 150 years old.

Definitely a 150 at both AAMI and MCG tonight. I would say it has to do with the 150 years of Australian Football being celebrated this year. It could also be for 150 feet - although I'd hate to think that we're reverting to the imperial measurement system.

The AFL hasn't existed that long

Why celebrate 130 years of what was a  suburban comp, when the real deal has only been going 21 years ( no I'm not including the Swannies move to Sydney ).

The then VFL had 2 options in the 80's - die due to rising debt or open the comp up to interstate clubs (and their big $$ license - which the Vic clubs were not obliged to pay).

And after all that they still propped up Fitzroy, St Kilda etc. way past their use by dates, using $'s provided by interstate clubs with their huge memberships.

So lets not celebrate 130 years of an insipid, mismanaged local comp & celebrate the saviours of Australian Rules, clubs like West Coast, Brisbane, Adelaide etc. if not for them we'd probably be watching a delayed telecast on the ABC of Footscray v St Kilda from VFL Park in front of a huge crowd of maybe 3-5 thousand...
