Question:

Why does it seem like everyone either has a strong love or a burning hate for Twilight?

It seems to me like everyone has a strong opinion on Twilight. Most say "OMG those books are AWESOME!" While others are saying that they're terrible, unimaginative, and that they sound like a bad fanfiction.

I think they're not bad, but they're not the best thing since microwave popcorn either. What is the big deal with Twilight?

  1. I think Stephanie Meyer has an interesting imagination, but I just think the books are horribly written. That's all.

  2. I love Twilight!!! I think Twilight is a very strong romance though. Some people don't like romance and some people adore it. I think evryones taste is different, this happens with every book, but Twilight is very popular so people's opinions are stronger. I also think guys don't like how girls think Edward is the most perfect thing out there (Emmett and Jacob 2)!!! But truth is guys want to pleaze their girls but they don't know how to be like the Twilight boyz so it frustrates them, lol.

  3. I like the books and they are my favorite series of all books, but i hate how girls say they want a boyfriend like Edward. He's NOT real! I think I am interested in them because i think they are well written and have a god plot to all of them. They have romance and adventure which i like.

I think the big deal, is Edward lol. Girls find him perfect, like Bella does. The whole Twilight thing will blow over, because the last book of the Twilight saga is out, although she's writing one in Edwards POV. It's like Harry Potter. I don't like the books or movies. I find them horribly written, and i find the movies dumb.

Harry Potter is still popular, but not talked about as much anymore, like Twilight WILL be someday.

  4. i love twilight, but people have diffrent tastes for certain things.

  5. I am not really answering your question as much as I am commenting on your additional details.

Stephenie Meyer never compared herself to Shakespeare in terms of talent.  EVER.  She showed some parallelism to the plot of Romeo and Juliet, but that does not mean she thought she was next to Shakespeare in her writing.  It just means she found something about that story that spoke to her story as well and used it (her big question was: what if?  What if Romeo left and never came back for Juliet?? Could she learn to love Paris?  The intense, instantaneous love for Romeo is like what Bella experienced with Edward.  Jacob is Paris in this scenario).

Writers draw inspiration from others all the time.  That does not mean that they are comparing themselves to others in  terms of style or talent.  They are just drawing inspiration.

As a side note:  when the story of Romeo and Juliet was first told, it was essentially teen romance fiction.  If you strip down all the "classic love story" and time it has endured, it is still the story of a fickle teen romance (I mean, seriously, Romeo went to the party looking for ROSALINE, found Juliet and within like 3 days was willing to kill himself for her.)  (Don't get me wrong...I love R&J, but they really are just fickle teenagers.)

Also, I am not saying that Twilight will necessarily stand the test of time that Romeo and Juliet has, but at the base, they are BOTH teen romance fiction.

  6. Actually, I love how she writes them. I am SURE she always had excellent marks on her essays while in uni, she has a very clear and SIMPLE style - very important to essay-writing. And...well, she describes a LOT. I'm not as patient, so sometimes I get annoyed and want her to just GET TO THE FREAKING POINT or next scene.

Also, we..it's a romantic book. Half the people are just cynical and obviously see that something like this would never be able to happen, the other half are just as romantic as Stefenie and that's why they like the romance, and half the girls out there dream of Edward.

  7. well to me i love them but to my best friend she hates just the idea of vampires and things like that so that turned her of and it dose to a lot of people but some here the reviews and that turns them off to but it is te same is is a love story with a twist like Romeo and Juliet but more thrilling is was not sure in the begin but it seems diffrent now it is just what you like

  8. I myself am a big fan of Twilight, but I don't yell "OMG TWILIGHT IS FREAKING AWESOME" to everybody.

Everyone have different tastes, that's all.

  9. People have different likes and dislikes.

I personally adore stephanie meyer, and her novels.

  10. I think Twilight is okay but is too surreal and lovey dovey. The whole book is about love so thats disappointing. A little more depth would have been nice.

  11. The thing with Twilight is just Edward or Jacob and how girls want to be/be like/think they are like Bella. Edward is this perfect Apollo God to them; they want to have a guy like him. It's just obsessive, can't-be-good-for-your-brain trash.

Those books are overly cliche, terribly written, no real development. The characters are idiots or to perfect. The characters just don't seem real to me at all...I mean, sparkling Vegetarian Vampires? Are you kidding?
