Question:

Why does it seem people don't know how to use their turn signals?

There are numerous three- and four-way intersections in busy areas around me with manual, non-traffic signal stops, and that only makes turn-signaling vital. But people never cease to amaze me with their seeming arrogance, mixed with laziness, that they don't signal, even if they're turning left. At this one four-way intersection in particular, it's always busy, every lane is filled up, and so to signal your intention makes it flow smoothly. I'll be signaling to turn right, or not signaling as I plan to drive straight ahead, but someone will cut me off, or at least attempt to, by turning left WITHOUT signaling. And they're not sorry in the least. They look at me like I'm the one going early. It just happened again today and it never ceases to both amaze me and anger me.

  1. Just plain old arrogance,inconsideration,laziness,stupi...  and respect for other drivers

  2. I don't know.  It's one of the things that bother me the most.  Yes on busy highways it's important, but it is also important on residential streets.  I drive a lot- I also walk a lot because I have 3 dogs who each get a walk everyday.  It is so annoying when someone turns into their driveway without signalling and give me a diry look like I'm supposed to know they were going to turn.  Or at some of the dangerous intersections around here where drivers just come flying off of the main road without a signal.   I don't know.  I think people are extremely arrogant as well as incapable of flicking that switch because they've got their freaking cell phone up to their head and driving with one hand

  3. 42% of drivers say they don’t have enough time, 23% admit they are just plain “lazy,” 17% don’t signal because when they do, they forget to turn it off, 12% admit they are changing lanes too frequently to bother, 11% say it is not important, 8% say they don’t signal because other drivers don’t, and perhaps most disturbing 7% say forgoing the signal “adds excitement to driving.”

  4. Drivers not operating vehicles defensively.  Don't let that stop you from doing the same

  5. I don't do a lot of driving anymore but I know what you mean. I have seen it too. It just seems that people are too self-absorbed. It's all about them. They don't see things from someone else's perspective and maybe they don't care. I always try to signal in advance. You do on occasion see other drivers like us.  I will signal plenty of time before I take this one road with a crazy street layout. I always get cars on my bumper (looks like it) and I feel like they are going to slam into me. I think also that people don't pay attention to other drivers at all, signal or not. People in general are much too self-absorbed. It's breaking down our civilized society.

edit: 23% are too lazy to signal. Yeah, it's a lot of work. Wow. I'm surprised they aren't too lazy to drive somewhere.

  6. I thought maybe car manufacturers had made blinkers optional, and that people had decided to go for the DVD players in their cars rather than turn signals.  At least it seems that way.  Seriously, how hard is it to use a blinker?  I guess it is more complicated when people are on their cell phones and doing twenty other things while driving, but that just raises another question.

  7. well they are in a rush to get some where and forget or they dont use their brain and just do it that is what i reacon it is
