for having the normal issues most american families have?

Are they expected to be perfect?

Who cares if Cheney's daughter is a L*****n?

Who cares if Palin's daughter is pregnant?

Who cares if Obama went to a church that said whitey gave them aids?

Don't we all have something in our lives that would be unacceptable if the public knew about it?

  1. You my friend are correct!

  2. I care if a presidential candidate is a long time member of a hateful racist wacko church ! And I think EVERYONE should care !!!

  3. Some people have the irrational belief that their politicians should be perfect and superhuman.

For me, it's not so much the specifics of the situation as how the candidates handle or react to them that's telling. For example, I don't care that Cheney's daughter is L*****n, but I DO care about Cheney's views on whether or not his daughter should be allowed to marry her partner. I don't care if Palin's daughter is pregnant, nor do I care if she chooses to keep the baby or abort it, but I DO care how Palin reacts because it tells me something about Palin as a person. I don't care where Obama worships, but I DO care how his choice place of worship might have influenced his worldview and I DO care about how he handles it when various things about his church are revealed because (again) it tells me something about him as a person. Knowing those things in turn helps me decide whether or not to vote for a candidate (or, in the case of Cheney and Palin, it helps me decide whether I want them a heartbeat away from the Presidency and therefore whether or not I want to vote for their running mates).

  4. I accept Cheney's daughter more than I can accept him.

Palin's daughter being pregnant is a primary example of her stance on s*x ed, which is part of her platform.

Obama does not believe that whitey gave blacks AIDS.

I can never run for office or my history would be a field day of gossip... and even if someone were squeaky clean, then they just make things up... so either way, it's a bum deal.

  5. I have never heard much about Cheney's daughter. As for Palin I think its just because of Palin's stance on s*x ed.

I do agree with you. We should not expect them to be perfect. They are humans too after all.

  6. I think it's because these are the people who are supposed to be leading our nation. They claim to have certain values and ethics, yet when these things come to light it shows them to be liars and hypocrites. Of course we all have skeletons in our closets, but those who choose a life in public are subject to scrutiny that we never have to endure.

  7. Well, I already disagree with the platforms of all the people you mentioned, so that really isn't an issue.

But yes, it's true. There's probably a lot about ourselves that we wouldn't want the wider world to know.

  8. It isn't because they have family issues.  It is the hypocrisy of their actions.

Cheney and his party aren't supporters of g*y rights, even though his daughter is g*y.

Palin claims to have all these "Christian values", and as far as I know she is one of those abstinence only education supporters, and her high schooler daughter is knocked up.  The irony.

  9. Not me, I'm British. However, they're all kinda schmucks, wouldnt you say?

Maybe its the fact that they would bite off their right arm for power, there is something just a little bit obvious and a little bit unseemly about that.

  10. Cheney's daughter- don't care

    Palin's daughter- don't care

    Obama's church- don't care

    YES

However not all of us are going to attempt to push beliefs on us, that they don't adhere to.

  11. i agree. it's very childish actually. but we are a nation that loves gossip and pointing fingers, it's who we are..
