Question:

Why does it seem there is such a rush to upgrade to new technology lately?

I really feel uncomfortable and overwhelmed by what seems to me to be an avalanche to "buy into" every latest gadget. We are almost forced into it. For instance, my computer is 8 years old and continues to function adequately, but Internet use is becoming burdensome since many Web sites require technology that is not supported by my system. Even my ISP had informed me that soon they will no longer be supporting my security software unless I upgrade my OS to at least Windows XP. Analog TV will no longer function in a few months unless you have cable, satellite, or buy a converter. It seems everyone has a cell phone glued to their ear like they can't go anywhere without being in contact with someone. It's just getting to the point of incredulity. Am I the only one that feels we are on a slippery slope of technology?

  1. Your always going to have your group of people that want the latest and greatest technology item. And if enough of them buy it. Then it eventually becomes the standard. As for digital T.V. in the U.S. the FCC wants to free up airwaves for once again new technologies that are coming. And by eliminating analog signals their doing that.

  2. You are not alone in your feelings.  Talking with the elderly I get the feeling that they were overwhelmed in their youth as well. The human race has been on the technology fast track since it began and I imagine that each generation feels the same sense of standing still in the mist of technology as we do.

I read futuristic novel once where some biblical prophet predicted the devil would come to take over the world in the form of a super-computer...with the way we have come to rely on our computers it makes me wonder if the end of humanity will somehow be tied to them. lol
