  1. Usually when they do road work there is a lot involved.

If it is taking that long, they are doing more than just putting down asphalt.

They typically start with putting in the drainage pipes that connect together under the road. There are usually water lines, sewer lines, telephone lines, gas lines in the way.

So all of those lines have to be moved without shutting them

off, so that people still have all of their utilities working.

Then any pipe for traffic signals, and street lights are installed.

There is alot of pipe and wire required to make these things work.

Then they start putting in the dirt and road base needed before they can start putting down asphalt. All of these things

require an inspection before they can move on to the next item of work.

Your right it does take forever !

  2. A friend of mine's husband worked for the NJ State Highway Dept.  There are times of year when the road is too cold to work on--they have to wait until the warmer months to lay the asphalt and so forth.

....and NJ is a good state regarding road repair.  I live on the PA side of the PA/NJ line.  PA taxes are a lot lower than NJs, but it took years to get River Road repaired on our side...

  3. I've wondered the same thing myself!!!  and honestly, I have no idea why it takes so long.  I just know that it drives me crazy!!!!!  = )

  4. I dont know, theres a small stretch of US RT 1 around here that they seriously have been working on for the past 5 years of so, and its one intersection.

The real reason in my opinion,  is because they get paid on days on the job, if their not constructing something, they dont get paid. So the longer they stretch it out, the more money they get.

  5. I've heard it's because they're working on like 20 other jobs at the same time so they have to go from one to the next constantly so they can get them all done.  It doesn't make sense to me either...maybe they need to hire a bunch more workers.
