[i am just a beginner but still want to learn.] i tried soldering some stranded copper wires, but the solder took a very long time [about a minute] to melt into the copper. I use a 30 W soldering iron and a 60/40 rosin core flux.

  1. Well, a higher wattage solder iron will help. Get as high wattage iron as you can that wil not damage the components you are soldering. If uncertain, ask someone at an electronics store.

  2. Check the head on your iron. Overtime it gets dirty, reducing the amount of contact the solder can make with the head. Also try using flux, its a cleaning agent which also helps bond the copper with the solder. Good luck. Hope this helps

  3. turn up the heat

  4. You might not have let your soldering iron heat up long enough.
