Why does it take me so long to get to sleep?

I go to bed at ten p.m. when I have to go to school. But before that, I went to bed at nine. It takes me a while to go to sleep and for my mind to "shut-up". I live in a two bedroom trailer. My Mom and I sleep in the same bed. My brother sleeps in his room. My dad (my parents are divorced) sleeps on the couch. My Mom is asleep long before I am. It takes me at least an hour to get to sleep. If I go to bed at nine, it take two or more. Why does it take me so long to get to sleep? Does anyone else experience this?

  1. One thing you can do is pretend that you are already asleep and dreaming. This seems to work for me, and another thing is just to think about a pleasant thought.

  2. This happens exactly to me! But I suggest put on some instrumental music or piano music on to a soft volume level. With this, you should go to sleep better because if your listening to regular songs, inside your head you are singing the words or the lyrics to the song which keeps you from falling asleep. Also, get a nice comfy blindfold because anything can wake you up even if your eyes are closed. Sleep in a comfortable position; like on your side with a nice, cold pillow in between your legs. Hope this helps! :)

  3. I used to have the same problem. I would constantly be working out problems in my head whether they be personal or professional. I started working out and it seemed to help. Also make sure that you have no caffeine after 2 in the afternoon, and don't eat 3 to 4 hours before bed.
